About Lyon Curling

Lyon Curling is one of the historic curling clubs in France. Founded in 1971, the club combines a long local presence with a renewed momentum that has strengthened its sporting activity since 2022.

Club profile

Lyon Curling is dedicated to the management and practice of curling in Lyon, while also helping promote the sport nationally. Based at the Baraban ice rink in Lyon's 3rd arrondissement, the club brings together volunteers, committed players, and newcomers around an inclusive, accessible, and friendly vision of curling.

Competition and sporting ambition

Lyon Curling takes part in tournaments across France and regularly enters teams in national competition. The club website highlights participation in French tournaments, nearly 10 tournaments in France, and regular entries in the French Curling Championships, where Lyon presented at least one team and finished 4th in the men's 2025 edition, matching the previous year.

Training conditions

The club trains at the Baraban ice rink, but its access to the ice is highly constrained. The city makes the rink available only on Tuesday evenings from 20:45 to 23:00, and this single slot is used for both training sessions and initiations. To maintain progression despite this limitation, club members also take part in curling training camps in Geneva, Switzerland, at the Halle de Curling de Genève.

Identity and strengths

Lyon Curling is an inclusive, mixed, and welcoming club where experienced players and beginners train together. This combination of history, competitive commitment, volunteer energy, and cross-border training support gives the club a distinctive place within French curling.
